Performance and Capabilities
The new VW Crafter’s balance of power and efficiency left us amazed after testing multiple variants. Let’s take a closer look at the features that make this van stand out from its competitors.Engine Options and Power Output
The refined 2.0-liter TDI engine sits at the core of the new VW Crafter with several power outputs available. Our tests revealed the 140PS version hits the sweet spot by delivering 340Nm of torque – ideal for both city deliveries and highway cruising. The top-tier 177PS bi-turbo model packs an impressive 410Nm of torque for users who need extra power. See VW Crafter MWB The Crafter’s unique selling point lies in its versatile drivetrain options:- Front-wheel drive maximizes payload efficiency
- Rear-wheel drive improves towing capability
- 4Motion all-wheel drive handles challenging conditions
Payload and Towing Capacity
The Crafter’s capabilities stood out during our load tests. Front-wheel-drive models can carry up to 1,531kg with proper specifications. Rear-wheel-drive versions excel at towing tasks with a capacity of up to 3,500kg braked trailer weight – making them ideal for construction and landscaping businesses. The cargo space doesn’t disappoint either. Volumes range from 9.9m³ to 18.4m³. The medium-length variant easily accommodates six Euro pallets, while the longest version fits nine roller containers – leading its class in capacity.Fuel Efficiency and Running Costs New VW Crafter
Our real-life testing showed fuel economy numbers that fleet managers will appreciate. Front-wheel-drive models proved most economical, reaching 35-38mpg in mixed driving conditions. The stop/start system works well in urban areas and provides a 3% improvement in fuel efficiency over the previous model. Service intervals now extend to 30,000 miles, though the onboard computer’s variable service indicators provide the best guidance for optimal performance. The engine’s new design features an improved oxidizing catalytic converter and special particulate filter coating that should reduce long-term costs while meeting current emission standards. The Crafter managed to keep consistent fuel economy even with full loads. Our tests with different cargo weights showed minimal impact on fuel consumption – a vital factor for businesses operating on tight margins.Technology and Connectivity Features
Our team was really impressed by the tech upgrades in the new VW Crafter’s 4Motion cabin after extensive testing. Let me walk you through the state-of-the-art features that make this commercial vehicle stand out.Digital Cockpit and Infotainment
The standard Digital Cockpit Pro proved itself as a real productivity tool in our daily tests. The customizable instrument cluster became a favorite feature because we could adjust information based on our driving needs. A 10.3-inch standard display or the larger 12.9-inch optional screen shows how much the infotainment system has evolved in size and capability. The menu navigation and crisp graphics caught our eye immediately. Touch sliders that light up to control temperature and volume work great, especially at night. The system switches between functions with zero lag, making it quick and responsive. See VW Crafter DropsideChatGPT Integration
The IDA voice assistant with ChatGPT integration stands out as one of the most innovative features we tested. These qualities made it special:- It understands context through natural language processing
- Vehicle functions and navigation work together smoothly
- Information comes through clearly without compromising safety
- Quick answers to general knowledge questions
Smartphone Integration and USB-C Ports
The Crafter now offers modern connectivity options. USB-C ports are placed strategically, including a smart spot at the windscreen’s top for dashcam setup. The wireless charging pad sits right where you need it while driving. The system includes both wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Our tests showed stable wireless connections even on long trips. Calls and music sound great through the Bluetooth 4.2 system with A2DP and aptX support. This system shines because it handles multiple connected devices at once. Switching between work and personal phones becomes easy, which helps when different drivers use the vehicle throughout the day. The system stores multiple device profiles so each user’s priorities stay intact. See VW Crafter LeasePricing and Trim Levels New VW Crafter

The Crafter shines with its flexibility. You can choose from three body lengths and four roof heights. Commerce trim models come in medium wheelbase with high roof or long wheelbase setups. The Commerce Plus adds more options with Maxi long wheelbase choices.Value for Money Analysis
The leasing options start at £441.91 per month (excluding VAT) and look very appealing. Flexible service schedules help manage lifetime costs – a vital factor in business planning. The Crafter adapts well to different business needs. The simple Commerce model works great for delivery operations. The Commerce Plus fits more demanding jobs. The extra cost makes sense when you look at the added features and capabilities. Contract hire deals start with a £3,354 rental and charge 6p per mile over the limit. Our tests of different setups show that standard features, build quality, and flexible financing make the new Crafter worth the investment. The higher upfront cost compared to rivals shouldn’t put you off.Real-World Performance Review New VW Crafter
The new VW Crafter shows impressive real-life capabilities that exceed its specifications on paper. Let’s tuck into our hands-on experience with this versatile commercial vehicle.Driving Experience New VW Crafter
The Crafter’s handling feels remarkably car-like throughout our test period. Its electromechanical steering gives precise feedback that makes city maneuvering effortless. The smooth power delivery from the 138bhp engine stands out in our tests with different load conditions. The eight-speed automatic transmission changes everything about daily operations. Drivers feel less tired in stop-start traffic because the gearbox makes smart decisions that match their needs. The cabin stays quiet even at motorway speeds – our test drivers loved this feature on long trips.Loading and Unloading Ease
The Crafter’s design shines in daily operations. The 1311mm-wide sliding side door works great in tight urban spaces. The rear doors open to 270 degrees, which makes forklift loading simple – we tested this feature in several warehouse settings. The new Crafter stands out with these smart loading features:- Remote cab locking to secure loading operations
- LED load area lighting as standard
- Multiple tie-down points with reinforced flooring
- Optional wooden sidewall protection
Maintenance Considerations
Our testing gives a full picture of maintenance needs that future owners should think over. The Crafter needs service every 30,000 miles, but regular checks keep it running at its best. These critical maintenance areas need attention:- Weekly battery electrolyte level checks to keep batteries topped up
- Monthly air filter inspections work best in dusty conditions
- Regular transmission fluid level monitoring
- Tire rotation and alignment checks during scheduled services
- Bi-monthly thorough washing prevents paint damage
Conclusion New VW Crafter
The new VW Crafter proves its worth after weeks of thorough testing. This commercial vehicle stands out as a remarkable achievement in design. Modern businesses will appreciate its practical payload capacity of 1,531kg and cutting-edge features like ChatGPT integration. You’ll pay more for the Crafter, but the price matches its role as a sophisticated workhorse that goes beyond basic van capabilities. Our road tests showed excellent fuel economy at 38mpg even when loaded. VW’s smart design choices shine through details like the windscreen USB-C port for dashcams – a feature that shows their focus on ground usability. This van feels more like a premium passenger vehicle thanks to its standard Digital Cockpit and safety features. It keeps the strong capabilities needed for commercial use. The familiar exterior hides complete interior updates, and the longer 30,000-mile service intervals show VW’s dedication to accepting new ideas while staying practical. The 2024 Crafter hits the perfect balance between reliable commercial transport and modern technology. We found the 140PS variant to be the best choice for most businesses. It delivers enough power for daily tasks while staying efficient.FAQs New VW Crafter

Swiss vans are a fantastic company to deal with .From the first meeting we had they delivered everything that was asked of them , my transporter was fitted with everything I asked for with expertise as my expectations was met to the letter .if you are thinking of getting your self a transporter that gets everything you expect and ask for this is definitely the company to use . I was worried first as I shoped about and some of the quotes I received was astronomical with other companies, but I feel as a customer a customer of swiss vans i looked after in everything that I was promised so I would definitely recommend these guys and I will no doubt use their services again in the future..... David jones .... thanks Tom Jones for all your help ....

I don't normally leave reviews but I can't recommend these guys enough, seriously - anyone that's looking to buy a van or other commercial vehicle, give these guy's a call, ask for Tom because you won't be disappointed...!!!
I needed a commercial vehicle for private use as I'm not self employed and therefore paying the VAT upfront is quite a chunk of money to loose so needed it to be wrapped up in the monthly repayment. I'd already tried several other companies before Swiss Vans and non of them were interested. I'd pretty much given up and was looking at 2nd Hand vans until I came across Swiss Vans advert on Facebook. I sent a message (with very low expectation) and the next day I was contacted by Tom Jones (yes, a Welshman called Tom Jones who sells vans...!!!). Tom is the first person that actually took the time to listen to what I needed and how I needed it work. He went away and came back a couple of hours later and explained that initially this wasn't going to be easy to achieve but to leave it with him and that he'd call me the next day. To be honest, I didn't think I'd hear from him again but true to his word he called me the next day and said that he had it all worked out, all agreed and all in place ready to go. Tom fired over the paperwork, I paid the small holding deposit and a few weeks later the vans been delivered and completely exceeded my expectations.
I'm a great believer that 'People buy People', yes Swiss Vans are truly excellent and I'd go as far as to say that in my experience, they're better than the rest but like all other companies they're only as good as the people they have working for them. Tom - I can't thank you enough, you're a credit to Swiss Vans, and Swiss Vans - you're outstanding.
