Ford Transit Minibus For Sale – 10 Things to Check
Essential Ford Transit Minibus Models
The Ford Transit minibus range comes in multiple configurations that work well for passenger transport needs of all types. You can choose from three body lengths and two roof height options. 9 Seater vs 12 Seater Options The 9-seater configuration gives you great versatility, especially when you need balanced passenger and cargo space. The 12-seater model builds on the same chassis design and adds an extra row of seating without affecting the vehicle’s dimensions. Both models come with adjustable driver and front passenger seats with armrests to keep everyone comfortable. 15 and 16 Seater Configurations L3 (long wheelbase) models fit 14-15 passengers with plenty of room. These variants come with medium (H2) and high (H3) roof options that give passengers more headroom and comfort. The 15-seater runs on a 2.0 EcoBlue engine, with both 130PS and 165PS power outputs available. 17 Seater Transit Features The 17-seater model is built on the L4 extended wheelbase platform and maximizes passenger capacity while keeping everyone comfortable. This variant has:- Four rows of rear seats in a 2-2-3-3-3 configuration
- Individual folding seats for flexible space management
- Wide-opening side doors with power-operated steps
- Advanced climate control system with separate rear controls
Exterior Inspection Checklist
Getting a full picture of the exterior is your first defense when assessing a Ford Transit minibus for sale.Body Condition Assessment
Take a close look at the paint job for inconsistencies, chips, missing sections, or runs. The way body panels are arranged is a vital sign of the vehicle’s overall condition. Make sure all doors shut properly and stay secure when closed. You need to get into:- Door arrangement and functioning, including the sliding door
- Body panel fit and gap consistency
- Glass condition for chips or cracks
- Underside damage from loading/unloading
- Paint consistency on all panels
Rust and Corrosion Check Points
Checking for corrosion starts with what you can see, followed by testing with your fingers and thumbs. Rust’s impact on vehicle safety depends by a lot on where it is and how bad it gets. Key areas to check for rust include:- Frame rails running underneath both sides
- Wheel wells, especially in older models
- Floor of the boot beneath carpeting
- Areas around the windscreen
- Door structures, both inside and out
Interior and Seating Evaluation
The Ford Transit minibus interior has several vital elements you need to assess carefully.Seat Condition and Safety
The driver’s seat security is a top priority. You’ll want to check if the seat stays firmly fixed in different positions and the adjustment mechanism works smoothly. Each passenger seat should maintain its upright position without any wobbling. Your inspection should get into these key points:- Seat structure integrity and backrest retention
- Automatic locking systems in all adjustment positions
- Seat frame mounting points within 30cm of anchorages
- Seat belt condition and proper operation
Interior Trim Check
After checking the seats, take a good look at the interior trim. The floor areas in both passenger and driver spaces need attention to spot signs of wear or loose parts. The overhead luggage racks should be stable and properly attached. A complete interior trim assessment should cover all surfaces to find tears, stains, or excessive wear. The headliner and dashboard condition are particularly important. Safety and comfort issues from any deterioration need immediate fixes.Passenger Comfort Features
The Ford Transit minibus comes with many comfort features. The dual-zone climate control system lets front and rear passengers set their own temperatures. Passengers can stay connected during their trip with multiple power outlets and onboard Wi-Fi. The comfort features include:- Reclining seat backs with armrests
- Side-opening windows for ventilation
- Electric entry step for easy access
- Extra headroom that lets passengers stand comfortably
Mechanical Health Assessment
A proper mechanical check plays a vital role when we reviewed a Ford Transit minibus. A complete inspection will give a sound investment decision.Engine Performance Check
The 2.0 EcoBlue engine needs a review of multiple components. We checked for fluid leaks around hoses, lines, and fittings. The engine should deliver smooth power with minimal noise in the cabin. Critical inspection points include:- Oil pressure and coolant levels
- Belt condition and timing
- Engine mount integrity
- Turbocharger air cooler condition
- Wiring connections
Transmission Inspection
The transmission system just needs careful review, starting with the MT82 six-speed gearbox. This reliable transmission can handle up to 80% more torque than its predecessor. The transmission mounts should be checked for cracks, breaks, or oil saturation. A road test works better than visual inspection alone to review transmission performance. The gearbox should move smoothly between positions without unexpected movement from first to neutral. Any grinding noise or resistance during gear changes needs further investigation.Brake System Evaluation
The brake system review covers multiple components and performance metrics. The service brake must meet specific efficiency requirements – 58% for vehicles made after September 2010 and 50% for earlier models. Pay close attention to:- Brake pad and shoe condition
- Rotor and drum wear patterns
- Brake line integrity
- Master cylinder functionality
- Parking brake operation
Documentation Requirements
Documentation is the life-blood of buying a used Ford Transit minibus. A full picture of the paperwork will protect your investment and give you legal compliance.Vehicle History Check
The V5C registration document is a vital proof of vehicle ownership and details. You must check for the DVLA watermark and accurate information about the minibus’s registered keeper, registration date, engine size, and color. We checked these details against the physical vehicle to arrange everything properly. Key elements to verify include:- Registration details and vehicle identification number
- Current keeper’s information
- Physical details matching the actual minibus
- Previous ownership history
- Mileage records
MOT Certification
The minibus’s age and usage pattern determine MOT testing requirements. Vehicles over three years old need annual MOT examination. Passenger-carrying vehicles need more frequent testing:- Every 10 weeks for professional passenger transport
- Every 6 weeks for minibusses over 12 years old
- Vehicle structure and corrosion
- Fuel system integrity
- Exhaust emissions
- Seat belt functionality
- Braking system efficiency
- Suspension components
Service Records Review
Ford started using Digital Service Records (DSR) for all new vehicles in 2022 instead of printed service booklets. This system brings several benefits:- Secure online storage of maintenance history
- Protection against fraudulent entries
- Easy access for subsequent owners
- Automatic updates after authorized service completion
- Check the FordPass app for digital records
- Contact previous servicing dealers
- Ask maintenance documentation from fleet operators
- Purchase price
- Mileage at point of sale
- Registration details
- Make and model specifications

Swiss vans are a fantastic company to deal with .From the first meeting we had they delivered everything that was asked of them , my transporter was fitted with everything I asked for with expertise as my expectations was met to the letter .if you are thinking of getting your self a transporter that gets everything you expect and ask for this is definitely the company to use . I was worried first as I shoped about and some of the quotes I received was astronomical with other companies, but I feel as a customer a customer of swiss vans i looked after in everything that I was promised so I would definitely recommend these guys and I will no doubt use their services again in the future..... David jones .... thanks Tom Jones for all your help ....

I don't normally leave reviews but I can't recommend these guys enough, seriously - anyone that's looking to buy a van or other commercial vehicle, give these guy's a call, ask for Tom because you won't be disappointed...!!!
I needed a commercial vehicle for private use as I'm not self employed and therefore paying the VAT upfront is quite a chunk of money to loose so needed it to be wrapped up in the monthly repayment. I'd already tried several other companies before Swiss Vans and non of them were interested. I'd pretty much given up and was looking at 2nd Hand vans until I came across Swiss Vans advert on Facebook. I sent a message (with very low expectation) and the next day I was contacted by Tom Jones (yes, a Welshman called Tom Jones who sells vans...!!!). Tom is the first person that actually took the time to listen to what I needed and how I needed it work. He went away and came back a couple of hours later and explained that initially this wasn't going to be easy to achieve but to leave it with him and that he'd call me the next day. To be honest, I didn't think I'd hear from him again but true to his word he called me the next day and said that he had it all worked out, all agreed and all in place ready to go. Tom fired over the paperwork, I paid the small holding deposit and a few weeks later the vans been delivered and completely exceeded my expectations.
I'm a great believer that 'People buy People', yes Swiss Vans are truly excellent and I'd go as far as to say that in my experience, they're better than the rest but like all other companies they're only as good as the people they have working for them. Tom - I can't thank you enough, you're a credit to Swiss Vans, and Swiss Vans - you're outstanding.
